About us
Get to Know Brightwayz
Here at Brightwayz social enterprise we are passionate about supporting and inspiring anyone involved in organising schemes to promote safe, active, sustainable travel - making places better, reducing travel inequalities, improving public health and cutting carbon emissions. We are here to help you all.
As a social enterprise, at Brightwayz we have a strong social and environmental mission; to promote safe, active, sustainable travel for everyday journeys for all.
We first launched in 2004 after our founder Alison Holland set up a ‘walking bus’ scheme at her son’s school. She realised there was a need for practical resources and information to support this and other walk to school schemes. This ignited a passion to share ideas, develop resources and inspire others to set up similar schemes.
Our innovative products to support walking, cycling and road safety schemes, have been developed over many years. We supply local authorities, schools and many other clients across the UK.
We have been partners with the brilliant team at Modeshift - the UK body for sustainable travel professsionals - for nearly 20 years. We led on the first ever Modeshift accredited Town Centre Travel Plan and have spoken at national conferences to share our ideas.
Our Social Mission
Main Objective
To promote safe, active, sustainable everyday travel for children and adults – for health, environment, social and community benefits 2. To promote the social enterprise and co-operative ways of doing business – addressing challenges with commercial solutions whilst putting people and planet before profit.
Our Vision
We aspire to a world where everyone has the freedom, confidence, ability and motivation to choose to travel in safe, active, sustainable ways for everyday journeys.
Our Mission
Brightwayz is committed to promoting safe, active, sustainable everyday travel for all ages to achieve a wide range of health, social and environmental benefits including improved well-being, better places, safer streets, lower carbon emissions and reduced car dependency. We do this by offering innovative products, delivering engaging projects, and providing practical information to support our customers and partners across the public, private and state sectors.
Our Aims
Our approach is to change hearts and minds with positive actions, practical information and effective resources to enable and encourage more children to walk, scoot or cycle safely to school and more adults to choose active travel for everyday journeys. We do this through our projects, products and information and by working with partners from local authorities, businesses and the community – locally, nationally and globally.
With transport the largest source of carbon emissions in the UK, activity levels amongst children at an all time low, air quality at dangerous levels and road traffic collisions the number one cause of death amongst teenagers and young adults, the challenges are great but through social enterprise we can work together to be part of the solution.
